New Delhi: Friday Gurgaon, a weekly newspaper that caters to the city, will be launched on 26 August, said Atul Sobti, who will be its editor and publisher.
Promoted by Arap Media Ventures Pvt. Ltd, Sobti’s media company, Friday Gurgaon will be priced at Rs7. Sobti, former chief executive and managing director of Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd, is managing director of Arap Media.
The core target readers for the newspaper are upscale Gurgaon residents in the 25-40 age group.
The 36-page, all-colour newspaper will cover local and business news apart from carrying lifestyle and editorial comment. Local news will constitute 80% of the content and international news the rest, said Sobti.
While the focus will be on content, 30-40% of the newspaper will constitute advertisements.
The company is in the process of finalizing syndication deals with international news agencies for global news that will be printed in the newspaper. Friday Gurgaon will also have a special pull-out section for children in the 10-16 age group.
The initial print run of the newspaper, which will be printed in Noida, will be 10,000 copies. The current staff size, including editorial, marketing and advertising, is 20.
Friday Gurgaon’s website will be updated every day with fresh news on the satellite town.
Gurgaon sees sales of 130,000 English newspapers a day, according to print media executives. Gurgaon Municipal Corporation data shows the satellite city is spread over an area of 217 sq.km. and is home to 1.2 million people.
