As Internet usage grows in India, more and more people are using it to widen their social circle, look for jobs, add to their knowledge of current affairs or simply satisfy their curiosity about mundane matters.
It was earlier seen as a metro phenomenon but today, a sizeable percentage of Internet users in India come from tier-II and tier-III cities.

This surge in interest not only makes the Internet a potential advertising medium, but also offers a unique platform to firms to market products and services to specific user groups. Starting this month, Campaign, in association with ViziSense.com, an open audience measurement platform, presents key online consumer trends —listings of the Top 10 websites by reach and page views, and a list of top sites by domain (the findings are based on data collected in January).
From downloads to blogs, from online shopping to finding a partner online, Indian users of the Internet largely mimic global trends, even as uniquely Indian obsessions such as Bollywood and cricket continue to get top billing even in cyberspace. Google.co.in is the top site, with 74.6% of Indian Internet users visiting it, while Yahoo.com has been viewed 2.9 billion times. A look at the top searches throws up names of hot favourites from Bollywood along with that of US President Barack Obama.
