Ten times Bollywood filmmakers launched their children
New Delhi: Romantic thriller Machine, which releases this week, is directed by Abbas-Mustan and stars Abbas’s son, debutant Mustafa Burmawala, in the lead. Over the years, Bollywood filmmakers have made quite a tradition of providing their offsprings, primarily sons, their first high-profile projects. Here are 10 films in which celebrities launched their children.
1. Kal Kissne Dekha (2009): Jackky Bhagnani made his debut with the science fiction romantic film produced by father Vashu Bhagnani. The Vivek Sharma-directed movie made Rs7 crore at the box office.
2.Love Story 2050 (2008): The science fiction romantic film featured newcomer Harman Baweja along with Priyanka Chopra. The movie, directed and produced by Harry Baweja, earned Rs12 crore in box office collections.
3.Kaho Naa..Pyaar Hai (2000): Rakesh Roshan directed son Hrithik in a double role in the blockbuster romantic thriller. The film that co-starred Amisha Patel made Rs36 crore at the box office.
4.Mohabbatein (2000): Yash Chopra’s romantic musical drama production directed by son Aditya Chopra featured son Uday as part of the ensemble cast that also included Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. The film made Rs25 crore at the box office.
5.Prem Aggan (1998): Feroz Khan launched and directed son Fardeen in the film that also starred newcomer Meghna Kothari. It earned Rs3 crore in net box office collections.
6.Barsaat (1995): Dharmendra produced the romantic film that marked the debut of son Bobby Deol. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and co-starring Twinkle Khanna, it earned Rs11 crore at the box office.
7.Anand Aur Anand (1984): Suniel Anand made his debut with the film directed by father Dev Anand. The film featuring the duo along with Raakhee and Smita Patil netted Rs1 crore at the box office.
8.Love Story (1981): Kumar Gaurav made his debut in the romantic film produced by father Rajendra Kumar. The musical blockbuster that also featured Kumar in a pivotal role, turned the young actor into a star overnight, earning more than Rs6 crore in box office collections.
9.Junoon (1979): The award-winning Shyam Benegal film featured producer Shashi Kapoor’s son Karan as part of a cast that included Kapoor, his wife Jennifer Kendal, Nafisa Ali, Tom Alter, Shabana Azmi, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Naseeruddin Shah and Deepti Naval. The movie was based on Ruskin Bond’s fictional novella, A Flight of Pigeons, set around the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
10.Bobby (1973): Rishi Kapoor made his first leading appearance in father Raj Kapoor’s blockbuster love story that earned Rs6 crore at the box office. He had earlier debuted as a child artiste in three-part drama Mera Naam Joker, also directed by his father.
