New Delhi: EMI Music India announced exclusive distribution deal with world music label, EarthSync.
EarthSync, founded in 2005, is a music label and high-end audio-visual production house based in Chennai, and is the hub for a group of producers, sound engineers, designers and filmmakers making unique world music projects.
Headed by Sonya Mazumdar and Yotam Agam, they nurture folk, tribal and native music from Asia, and present the music to a global audience by fusing traditional sounds with the contemporary from around the world.
The first India-wide release in synergy with EMI Music India will be Laya Project, an inspirational music documentary and double album for which the company travelled for two years through communities in the 2004 tsunami-affected regions of Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar and India. The award-winning film is being broadcast worldwide on the National Geographic Channel and has an India release scheduled for end June.
This will be followed up by a series of releases on Sufi fusion from South India, traditional music from Myanmar, and an electro-folk album that samples exclusive music from different places.
