Mumbai: As befits a big fat movie franchise, James Bond is getting the usual breathless coverage across the world and across all media with the latest instalment due to be released overseas this month.

In India, Skyfall will only be released a month from now—on 1 November, with more than 1,000 prints. Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. is cranking up the publicity machinery in anticipation of this with various promotional campaigns.

To begin with, it will launch a Blu-ray limited edition pack of all 22 Bond films priced at 25,000. Adele’s theme song for the 23rd Bond movie will also be unveiled. A documentary, Everything or Nothing, about how Ian Fleming, Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman brought Bond to the silver screen, will be released worldwide on 5 October. In India, it will premier at the Mumbai film festival in mid-October.

The Movies Now television channel will host a Bond marathon from 2 November—one film featuring the British secret agent every night from the first one, Dr. No (1962) to the last one, Quantum of Solace (2008). Most multiplexes may open ticket bookings a month in advance for Skyfall. The movie will also be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu to appeal to a wider audience.

BIG Cinemas, the theatre chain promoted by Anil Ambani, will be showing the Imax version of the Bond film, having recently refurbished the Mumbai cinema hall with the extra large screen.

“We are aggressively promoting the release of Skyfall and completion of 50 years of Bond at BIG Cinemas," said Ashok Ganapathy, chief executive of BIG Cinemas. The multiplex is in talks with the distributor to screen older Bond films before the Skyfall release.

Cinemax India Ltd, promoted by the Kanakia Group, will hold paid previews and is seeking to host the premier in India. “The Casino Royale premier was also hosted at Cinemax India; this year too we are hoping to clinch the deal with the distributor," said a Cinemax India spokesperson.

PVR Ltd, which runs the PVR multiplex chain, has also begun contests as part of the build-up.

“We are also trying to source Bond merchandise as part of promotions. During the last week of this month, we might hold a James Bond film festival at select PVR cinemas and the finale will be the release of Skyfall," said Gautam Dutta, COO.

Quantum of Solace grossed around 44.4 crore at the box office in India, while Casino Royale (2006) grossed around 40.3 crore, Sony Pictures said. Daniel Craig played Bond in both these films and is the star of Skyfall as well. In the last 50 years, the actors who have played the part are Barry Nelson, Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan.
