The Supreme Court on Tuesday suggested having a premium metro service for those who have to leave their cars at home due to Delhi’s odd-even scheme.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court suggested that metros have premium services at a higher price for those willing to pay. The court was hearing petitions filed to reduce air pollution in the city, a part of which was augmenting metro services in the city. Chief justice T.S. Thakur asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to consider a more convenient system so that car owners who weren’t using their cars could have a seat and not be jostled.
“Why can’t the metro provide convenience to those who don’t have their cars (during this odd-even scheme)," Thakur asked. He said if those willing to pay ₹ 100 instead of ₹ 20 ticket are provided this service, it can act as an incentive for those giving up their cars during the odd-even scheme.
Lawyer Harish Salve, assisting the court in the case, said that there had been discussions regarding first class coaches in the metro at six times the fare as well as having air-conditioned buses.
Do you think a premium service by DMRC will be a good idea?
