The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0, released in India last week by Flippertech.com, is sure to win over anyone who enjoys remote controlled toys. The Drone is a quadcopter – a helicopter with four blades surrounding the body, and it is much easier to control than a traditional toy helicopter.
It has an in-built WiFi radio which lets you connect it to a tablet or smartphone, and you have to download a free app to order it around. You can fly the Drone by just tilting your tablet, and it’s a lot of fun to just swoop around wildly.
With a battery life of just over 20 minutes, it also gives you more time in the air than most other RC helicopters, but the real draw is in the AR in the name – the Drone comes with an HD camera mounted in the nose, which is streaming live video back to the app you use to control it, giving you a bird’s eye view of the proceedings.
This can also be used for augmented reality games, while other apps which are coming let you pre-program a flight path and set up crazy tricks. All in all, the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 is an amazing toy to have, guaranteed to bring you hours of fun in 20 minute intervals, as long as you’re willing to pay Rs31,000 for it.
