The required run rate was not too demanding when the Knights walked in to bat. Set a target of 174 by Kings XI Punjab (K Sangakkara 64, S Marsh 40, Umar Gul 4/23) Sourav’s boys needed just 8.75 runs an over to win.
But after a fine start — 45 for none — wickets started falling in quick succession with the knights losing six batsmen over the next 61 additions to the board.
Suddenly, the mathematics wents awry and Dada’s boys had to make 70 runs off five overs to win. And a determined Dada decided he’d do just that. Ganguly went on to make 86 not out, ably supported by Umar Gul who chipped in with 24. Gul had earlier scalped the wickets of Sangakkara, Hopes and Pathan.
