Mumbai: Ravi Deshpande, chief creative officer of Contract Advertising (I) Ltd, the second agency of JWT India Ltd, has become the third Indian currently to join the JWT Worldwide Creative Council as a permanent member. The creamiest of creative minds within the JWT universe are handpicked to join the forum, which champions the cause of creativity globally and is based on the premise ‘everything communicates’.
The other two permanent Indian members are JWT India Ltd joint national creative directors, Agnello Dias and Josy Paul.
Says Deshpande: “The JWT Worldwide Creative Council meets on a quarterly basis to review creative work from across the network. We give strategic and creative inputs with the vision of enhancing work and going beyond the thirty-second commercial. I have been a part of the Council informally, but this time around, I am going to be a part of the proceedings as a permanent member. The intention is to keep the motivation going in order to enhance creativity. The best pieces of work are analyzed, reviewed and then rewarded.”
He is scheduled to leave for Shanghai third week of July, when the regional council will meet again to review the work of the last quarter.
JWT India Ltd, which has six offices across India, handles companies such as Pepsi India Ltd, Ford India Ltd, Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Kellogg India Pvt Ltd, Nestle India Ltd and Frito lay India Pvt Ltd. The offices are in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Chandigarh.
During his career, Deshpande had launched his own independent agency, Lemon, with the backing of Euro RSCG Worldwide. He also doubled up as the chief creative officer for the Euro RSCG Worldwide and its 11 firms in India and West Asia. Deshpande is best known for ad campaigns like Standard Chartered Mutual funds ’retire early’ campaign, Cadbury Delite - ’dudh se dosti kar lo’, and ‘Zoom Television campaign.
The last person who won a permanent seat on this Council after nine months of being at the agency was Tay Guan Hin, regional creative director of JWT Southeast Asia. He was also the first Singaporean to receive the honour.
