New Delhi: The national capital is all set to host its very own literature festival later this week featuring book launches, interaction with authors as well as a music show.

Coming close on the heels of the Jaipur Literature Festival, the two-day literary event beginning 9 February will host 10 sessions on different themes at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts.

“This is more like a curtain raiser. We plan to go all out in 2014 with a four-day long event," said Supriya Suri, artistic director of Cinedarbaar Welfare Society, the organization that is behind the conceptualisation of this event.

Prominent names like Advaita Kala and Arunava Sinha lead the list of 35 authors who will form a part of the event. “There is no prior registration for this. Anyone who wants to join is welcome to just walk in," Suri said.

When asked how the idea came about, she told PTI, “There had been a feeling as to why do we need to go to Jaipur to attend a literature festival. So, when we floated this idea, we received an enthusiastic response. Initially the festival was meant to be a one-day event but seeing the response, we decided to make it a two-day affair." The festival will kick-off with the launch of Madhulika Liddle’s book “My Lawfully Wedded Husband".

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has been invited to felicitate the authors. Apart from authors and publishers, union minister Kapil Sibal will be be part of a panel discussion on ‘Poetry and Politics´. The two-day event, supported by the Delhi government, will come to an end on 10 February with a musical performance by Iranian folk lore music band Zakrus.
