Mumbai: The Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 or T20 cricket tournament may be over, but the Rajasthan Royals franchise is still busy. To keep the team brand alive, Rajasthan Royals plans to open sports cafes, separate merchandise stores and even organize events in the off season.
People familiar with the development have told CNBC-TV18 that Rajasthan Royals owners now plan special outlets with their merchandise partners Puma. The franchise is also planning a chain of Rajasthan Royal branded cafes. This will be an alliance with one of the currently established cafe chains, they said.
Also on the cards are talent hunt competitions for cricketers that will be organized by media property developer Emerging Media, which will be aired as a series on NDTV Imagine.
Rajasthan Royals is also working on a tie-up with the British Asian Trust, under which the team will play one of England’s domestic T20 teams at Lords in July. Similar tournaments will be held in Australia as well.
A report by IIFL says Rajasthan Royals made a profit of around Rs35 crore in IPL 2. So the team may not have to raise additional funds for these activities.
