New Delhi: Rahul Joshi, editorial director of The Economic Times, has been named chief executive officer, news, and group editor-in-chief of Network 18, the media group controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd.

“Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd has informed BSE that Mr Rahul Joshi has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of the Network18 group and designated as CEO News and Group Editor-in-Chief," the company said in a statement.

News of the appointment has been communicated to employees of the company though an internal mail, a senior executive at one of the channels owned by the group said on condition of anonymity.

Joshi has submitted his resignation to Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd (BCCL), publisher of The Economic Times, and 11 September will be his last at the company, VCCircle reported.

At Network 18, Joshi will look after all business and editorial aspects, Exchange4Media website reported. Joshi did not respond to calls and text messages from Mint.

Network 18’s current group CEO A.P. Parigi also did not respond to queries from Mint on the appointment of Joshi.

Network 18 group is a public listed holding company that owns several television and digital media entities. These include television channels such as CNBC TV18, CNN-IBN, IBN7 and CNBC Awaz, websites such as firstpost.com and moneycontrol.com, magazines (including the licence for Forbes India) and entertainment channels such as Colors, MTV and Homeshop Entertainment, among others.

Network18 was acquired by Reliance Industries last year.

Network 18 shares fell 3.11% to 56 shortly before close of trading on the BSE while the benchmark Sensex was down 1.07% to 27,631.59 points.

HT Media Ltd, publisher of Mint and the Hindustan Times, competes with BCCL in some markets.
