New Delhi: Twitter on Wednesday released data on top trending topics, people and events across sports, politics and television by mapping conversations of more than 20 million Twitter users in India in 2013.
Users loved tweeting about cricket, with some of the top trends including cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement from cricket (#ThankYouSachin), the India-Australia series hosted in October-November (#IndvsAus) and the Indian Premier League’s sixth season (#IPL).
The social networking site saw users discuss breaking news, from international events in Syria and Egypt, to the Uttarakhand floods and Cyclone Phailin. Twitter also became the second screen for television fans as they tweeted along in real time for programmes such as Bigg Boss, a reality show based on the Big Brother format (#BB7) and Koffee With Karan, a talk show hosted by film-maker Karan Johar.
Famous personalities from the field of entertainment, sports and government such as Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, Saina Nehwal, Sourav Ganguly and the Indian Army joined Twitter this year.
