I am a fairly new father and it touches all the right chords in all the right places. The casting of the mother, the young boy, the location of the house is perfect. I am a sucker for real films (just for the record, by real I don’t mean real vis-a-vis scam work. I mean films that look like a slice of life, instead of sounding/looking like advertising).
But there’s something, which I really can’t put my finger on, that’s missing. Maybe, maybe I would have tried in the last frame—a shot of the mother looking at the boy a little lovingly, instead of walking away from the room. Might have touched the chord one more time.
