New Delhi: Socially relevant films were the forte of veteran film maker BR Chopra. As a tribute to his creative genius, to mark his 94th birthday is a special film festival being hosted by the Film and Television Producers Guild of India. Titled “Guild Greats” it would screen nine of his films.

The opening film will be ‘Insaaf Ka Tarazu’, a movie which created a stir in the 80’s with its bold theme and the expose’ on the ineffective legal framework that allowed criminals to walk free. ‘Ittefaq’was a successful film sans songs, ‘Gumraah’ showed the dilemma of the woman in a triangular relationship, ‘Nikaah’ questioned the law of divorce in Islam, ‘Baghbaan’ showed the mirror to the young who often ignore their ageing parents, ‘Waqt’ established the hand of fate, and ‘Naya Daur’ exhibited the Nehruvian look to a newly independent country and the responsibility of its people towards nation-building.
