Micromax wins BCCI sponsorship rights for 2014-15 matches
Micromax wins rights for international series, domestic tournaments for fee of slightly over Rs18 crore
New Delhi: Mobile handset manufacturer Micromax Informatics Ltd has won the title sponsorship rights for international cricket series and domestic tournaments to be played in India for a fee of slightly over 18 crore.
The rights are for nine international games, including the India-West Indies series, which will be played in the next few months.
Micromax’s winning bid was received by the marketing committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that met at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai on Thursday.
“The BCCI welcomes Micromax Informatics Ltd as a partner for the 2014-15 season," aid BCCI’s honorary secretary Sanjay Patel said in a statement. “The forthcoming series between India and the West Indies will feature some exciting cricket. There will be plenty of action in the domestic competitions as well. We have no doubt that it will be a fruitful association."
The domestic matches covered under the sponsorship deal include the Irani Cup, Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and DB Deodhar Trophy.
Last October, Star India Pvt. Ltd acquired the title sponsorship rights of international and domestic cricket matches that were played in India till 30 April at a base price of 2 crore a match.
