J. Walter Thompson and McCann have topped the Gunn Report India ranking for ad agencies; Contract Advertising is ranked number three

New Delhi: J. Walter Thompson, the WPP Group advertising agency, and The McCann Worldgroup have topped the Gunn Report India agency ranking for 2015, according to a release on Tuesday.

The Contract Advertising, which is part of the J. Walter Thompson South Asia Group, is ranked number 3.

The Gunn Report, the global index of creative excellence in advertising, has summarized the overall performance of the advertising industry in the year January to December 2015 based on the results of global, regional and national creative award contests.

“To have two of our group companies right at the top of the creative charts is really satisfying. This is an unprecedented achievement,” said Tarun Rai, CEO, J. Walter Thompson South Asia.

J. Walter Thompson topped the ranking with maximum number of points in film (7) for the work done by its offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru. The agency’s chief creative officer Senthil Kumar said: “It’s a great start to the year with J. Walter Thompson India topping the Global Gunn Report India agency ranking. We have always gone in with all guns blazing for our clients with sharp ideas that strike the bulls’ eye more often than not.”

The agency won global recognition in digital, mobile and social categories along with an All Guns Blazing performance in Film. “We will work harder to stay on top of our game and build the reputation of J. Walter Thompson as the most creative agency in the country and beyond,” Kumar added.

Contract Advertising’s number 3 rank comes with its overall tally of 6, with the maximum score for Films. Ashish Chakravarty, national creative director, Contract Advertising, said: “While I am quite happy about the Gunn report rankings, I believe that awards (and, therefore, such rankings) are the by-product of the passion and rigour that we put into our work... so, the many creative awards, new business wins, and rankings, only go to show that we are doing it right. Maybe.”

In the India rankings, the fourth position was occupied by advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather.

J. Walter Thompson is South Asia’s marketing communications agency that works across India, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
