Sony slashes prices of Xperia X, Z5 Premium by up to Rs10,000
The reduction, effective 1 September, will see Xperia X being sold at Rs38,990
New Delhi: Sony India has reduced prices of its flagship devices, Xperia X and Z5 Premium, by up to 21%. The reduction, effective 1 September, will see Xperia X being sold at ₹ 38,990. This is lower by ₹ 10,000 or about 21% from the launch price of ₹ 48,990 in May this year.
Similarly, the Xperia Z5 Premium will now be priced at ₹ 47,990, which was earlier available at ₹ 55,990 at the launch in October 2015. This translates into a reduction of ₹ 8,000 or 14%. The new price is effective from 1 September, 2016, Sony India said in a statement.
Sony India plays in the mid and premium category in the Indian smartphone market, which is among the fastest growing in the world. According to research firm IDC, smartphone market in India saw a 17.1% sequential rise in shipments to 27.5 million units in the April-June 2016 quarter, with Chinese vendors like Lenovo, Xioami and Vivo driving the growth.
The largest player in India is Samsung (25.1%), followed by Micromax (12.9%), Lenovo Group (7.7%) and Intex (7.1%).
