Mumbai: Turner General Entertainment Networks India Ltd owned Imagine TV is launching a star based quiz show called “BIG MONEY” beginning 10 July. The new show will be hosted by southern super-star Madhavan.
The show that is in a question and answer format will feature families and the winner will take away Rs1 crore. Nikhil Madhok, head of marketing and communication, at Imagine TV said that the questions in the quiz show will be based on television content across genres and channels.
“In that sense, the show is a celebration of television and a break from conventional formats. 26,000 people from across India have applied to be a part of the show,” said Madhok.
The channel was also supposed to launch the Indian version of “So You Think You Can Dance”, but the plan is now on hold, said Madhok.
Most general entertainment channels are banking on star power this season to boost viewership. Star Plus is launching a cooking reality show called Masterchef hosted by Akshay Kumar. As per media reports, Sony Entertainment Television, part of Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd, is expected to launch a new season of Kaun Banega Crorepati with Amitabh Bachchan while Colors had annouced Khatron Ke Khiladi with Priyanka Chopra.
Amit Ray, chief operating officer, Lintas Media Group (LMG) said that celebrity based shows add buzz to the channel and can be priced at a premium — often 20% higher than conventional programming. According to media buyers, the ad spots for “BIG MONEY” are being sold for Rs1-1.5 lakh for ten seconds.
