BackFTII signs MoU with Canon India for short-term courses
Canon will provide high-end cameras and accessories free of cost for FTII's 'Skilling India in Film and Television' initiative

New Delhi: The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the digital imaging company Canon India Pvt. Ltd in a bid to promote film education through short-term courses across the country.
According to a statement released by information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry, Canon will provide high-end cameras and accessories free of cost for FTII’s SKIFT (Skilling India in Film and Television) initiative.
Under this initiative, FTII offers short-term, skill-oriented courses across the country in collaboration with state governments, universities and educational institutions.
Canon will be a technology partner of SKIFT. “This support would be a major contributing factor in keeping the course fees affordable while offering an opportunity to course participants to use cutting-edge equipment," the ministry said in a statement.
Rajyavardhan Rathore, minister of state for I&B, said, “The exposure of budding young talent to the nuances of technology has a positive impact on their learning curve. This initiative would ensure the perfect blend of technology and young talent through the platform of FTII."
The courses proposed under SKIFT include digital cinematography, documentary film making, screenplay writing, acting, film criticism and journalism and film appreciation. These courses are to be provided across non-metros and tier II towns like Guwahati, Jaipur, Vishakhapatnam, Raipur, Chandigarh and Raipur. FTII is also in the process of aligning some of the short courses with Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana under the National Skill Development Council.

As a technology partner for this initiative, Canon India is delighted to add value to the programme endeavoured to scale skill development in film and television to greater heights," said Kazutada Kobayashi, president and chief executive officer at Canon India, in the statement.
For the year 2017-18, the government intends to spend Rs207 crore on the film sector, up from Rs134 crore last year which will include dissemination of film content, infrastructure development, and development of National Museum of Indian Cinema, among other projects.
