Travel smart: Apps to make vacations less stressful

Travel planning can be made a lot more convenient with the right app on your smartphone

Every trip, particularly if it’s a vacation with friends and family, takes a lot of planning and homework. Even an impromptu one needs some amount of research. With the right set of apps, one can actually make travel a lot more enjoyable. Here’s a selection of apps which can come in handy on your next trip.

IRCTC Air

Price: Free

Available on Google Play Store

Unlike the railway booking app, IRCTC’s flight booking app doesn’t ask users to log in every time they open the app to even check on flight details. The app allows users to check available flights, departure times and the prices of tickets. As of now it carries flight details of Air India flights only, but we expect more airline companies to come on board. The app is free of ads which is a big bonus. It allows you to customise your journey and make choices such as the number of stops a day you wish to make and the price you wish to pay.

Rightstay

Price: Free

Available on Google Play Store

MakeMyTrip’s new app Rightstay is meant for users looking for more affordable lodging options compared to hotels. The places it covers are put in a vertical scroll on the home page. In case you wish to look for any specific place there is a search bar for it right at the top. The search results will show the place and all the accommodation that is available along with their photos, number of rooms available, a bit of detail about the owner and the total cost of staying there. You don’t need a secondary app and can book an accommodation form the app itself. We liked the fact that its reach is not restricted to metros and popular tourist destinations. It shows options for even remote places like Dhankar in Spiti valley, Himachal Pradesh.
