Travelling companion

You’re a travelling businessman, and carrying around tonnes of accessories that make your hand baggage inconveniently bulky is a huge irritant. But a mouse is necessary since the trackpad is not the most convenient of input devices. So, what do you do? Here is something that may help.

The HP Bluetooth PC Card Mouse is an innovative, wireless optical mouse that connects through Bluetooth. This sleek 5mm Bluetooth mouse fits in the notebook PC slot and recharges automatically. It also offers comfort similar to a traditional mouse and notebook touchpad. As a result, the HP Bluetooth mouse is an ideal travelling companion for notebook users.

Priced at Rs3,999, it is not cheap, but its size and functionality make it a convenient option. Moreover, the mouse is wire-free and you won’t have to worry about finding a flat surface to operate it. Also, it conveniently stores inside the PC card of the notebook and charges automatically through the integrated rechargeable battery. If that’s not convenient, stick to the trackpad!

Garmin has launched the Astro GPS Dog Tracking System, specifically for sporting dogs. The Astro system has two components—the dog’s transmitter (called the DC 20) and the user’s handheld receiver (named the Astro 220). The DC 20 is mounted on a lightweight neoprene harness that straps to the dog’s collar around its chest and behind its front legs. Users can also thread the unit directly on a standard one-inch collar so that the unit fits on the back of the dog’s neck.

The system requires very little configuration. Once the transmitter and receiver acquire a GPS signal, the receiver automatically lets users know the location of the dog. Unlike some existing radio-telemetry collars, the Astro features a dog page that shows the precise direction and distance to a dog—even indicating if it is running or sitting—and does all this without the annoyance of beeper collars.

Although meant for sports dogs (the hunting variety sorts), it can easily be used for your pet, too. Just in case it is the sort that tends to wander about!

Figla has created the ultimate multipurpose cleaning machine. And when we say ultimate, we mean it. This is a talking vacuum cleaner that works using numerous sensors (infrared, gyro, ultrasonic as well as a normal camera). The machine can detect rubbish while judging uneven surfaces and obstacles. The robot has two power modes (economy and full), with a battery life of one and two hours, respectively, and can clean 1,000sq. m in an hour. While there are many other products, the Joomba for instance, that carry out the same functions in a similar robotic manner, the Figla’s speaking capabilities make it different. What it talks, though, is not clear yet and you would be lucky if you are not reprimanded for creating a mess!
