New Delhi: Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee presents the 2009-10 Budget to Parliament on Monday.
Highlights of the speech
• 2008-09 GDP growth seen at 6.7%
• Deepen and broaden the agenda for inclusive development
• Allocates Rs40 billion to incentivise lending to small firms
• Extend interest subvention to exporters in 7 sectors till March 2010
• To give relief to exporters hit by global financial crisis
• To extend agriculture debt waiver by 6 months
• To provide additional Rs10 billion over interim budget for irrigation
• To pay additional subvention of 1% to farmers who pay short-term farm loans on schedule
• Agriculture credit target Rs3.25 trillion
• Target for agriculture credit Rs3.25 trillion
• To develop long-distance gas pipelines to develop national grid
• Allocates Rs5 billion for Mumbai flood project
• To raise allocation for urban poor schemes to Rs39.73 billion in 2009-10
• Allocation for national highways development to rise 23%
• Have to continue with efforts to provide fiscal stimulus
• There are signs of revival in domestic industry and foreign investors have returned
• Significant inflow of foreign capital is important
