Quick Edit | ’Appy 10 billionth
Two-and-half years; 10 billion apps. That’s not a bad record, and Apple has every reason to be chuffed about it. Because there’s an app for anything a computer or tablet user may need or not need (the 10 billionth download was of a free app, a game called Paper Glider). Because the resident software on a computer or device now largely serves the purpose (for a limited, but rapidly growing bunch of users) of being a conduit to download apps. Indeed, it seems positively primitive to think that software was once bought on CDs and floppy disks. And, especially because Microsoft claims the term App Store as its own. Developers of software for businesses are even beginning to think in terms of “enterprise app stores" and, who knows, that could well be the future of business computing. With 400,000 apps and counting on the App Store, it is already the present of personal computing.
