Mumbai, 19 September Sensex index soared above the key 16,000-point level in early trade today as Asian markets surged after the US Federal Reserve cut rates by 50 basis points, dealers said.
The Sensex was trading at 16,064.69 points up 395.57 points, or 2.52%, over Tuesday’s (18 September) close.
“The markets surged on global clues and optimism of an easing of the US mortgage subprime concern,” said Naresh Garg, chief investment officer with private sector Sahara Mutual Funds.
