Washington: Outgoing US President George W Bush along with his wife Laura today greeted his successor Barack Obama and the future first lady Michelle at the White House, some two hours before the historic swearing in ceremony.
Both Bush and Laura were standing at the North Portico of White House, when the Obamas arrived at their new residence in their new limousine called ‘The Beast´ by the Secret Service, because of its state-of-the-art capabilities.
Michelle Obama was carrying a gift box, which she handed over to Laura. With a brief photo session for the battery of photographers, the outgoing and incoming presidents moved inside the White House for coffee.
The incoming Vice President Joe Biden and members of Joint Congressional Committee also joined them for the coffee. From here, Bush and Obama would go to the Capitol Hill for the swearing in ceremony.
Earlier, the incoming First Family of the US began their day with a church service at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
A sea of humanity has gathered at the National Mall here overlooking the Capitol to be witness to the historic occasion when Obama will be sworn in as the 44th President of the US -- the first black American to occupy the White House.
