Dear Reader,
We are delighted to note that Amit Varma, whose column Thinking It Through runs every Thursday on Page 22 in Mint’s Views section, has won the 2007 Bastiat Prize for Journalism for three of his columns. The New York-based International Policy Network gives the prize every year to a writer “whose published works eloquently and wittily elucidate the institutions of a free society”, and is named after the French philosopher and essayist, Frederic Bastiat.
Varma was chosen from 280 entries in 60 countries. The six finalists included writers from The Atlantic Monthly, The Independent, UK, and The Los Angeles Times.
