Don’t make any plans for the Fifa World Cup in 2110. There is little chance that you, or any other Homo sapien, will be around by then.
Australian scientist, and one of the eradicators of smallpox, Frank Fenner told The Australian newspaper last week that human beings will be extinct within as little as 100 years. Fenner said this was due to exploding human population and unbridled consumption.
Damning all Homo sapiens further, Fenner said the process was irreversible. It was too late to do anything.
Fenner’s is the latest in a series of doomsday predictions by scientists. Just the day before, a Cambridge University professor predicted that a cataclysmic event would take place in 2014. (He said there was a pattern.)
Acceptance, they say, is the last in the five stages of grief. The first is denial. While governments continue to squabble, science seems to have given up on us.
