Apple’s ubiquitous little device holds everything, from Bruce Springsteen’s greatest hits to the most recent episode of your favourite serial. It comes in a few bright shades and a handful of sizes. Now, there are plenty of bells and whistles to accessorize your music player.
Apple.com boasts that this accessory is as easy as “putting on a pair of socks.”
Thankfully, it isn’t nearly as boring. A box of six vibrantly coloured iPod socks will jazz up your tune player. Share them with five friends or change iPod’s sock every day. $29 (Rs1,189) for six at www.apple.com.
Not quite a companion for your MP3 player, but a new way to play your tunes. Hasbro’s iDog plays your iPod’s songs through its speakers while it dances, lights up, and has different “personalities,” depending on the kind of music it plays.
Also available in the iCat and iCy (a penguin), the iDog is available at $15-$30, depending on the pet and colour.
Give your iPod or iPod mini a quick and colourful facelift with the iShade. This transparent plastic piece covers the screen, protecting it and giving it a different hue when the backlight is illuminated. The iShade is available in seven fluorescent colours for $3.50 each at www.theistore.com.
Care kit
Depending on how often you use your iPod, it could be dirty or scratched. Taking good care of your player will ensure a long and musical life. The Digital Lifestyles Outfitters iPod Care Kit comes with three solutions—one to clean, two to remove heavy and fine scratches and three, a soft cloth to clean and buff your music player. Available at $19.99.
Alarm clock and dock
This docking station doubles as an alarm clock. Play music until the sleep timer switches off your iPod. While you sleep, your iPod can charge. In the morning, wake to your music or a buzzer. iHome sells the alarm clock for iPod with side accent lights. $49.99 at www.ihomeaudio.com. (NYT)
New LG-YouTube phones
LG Electronics has signed an agreement with YouTube, the world’s biggest video-sharing website, to develop a mobile phone which can operate the service. The proposed model will enable users to upload, view and share video clips or user-created content (UCC) online freely without using computers.
LG is also stepping up its partnership with Google, the world’s largest Internet search engine which owns YouTube. It began selling third-generation (3G) handsets called Google phones with software installed for directly using the Google service, in Europe last month. The phone offers one-click access to Google’s search engine as well as Google maps and gmail. (AP)
