It’s not often that Steve Jobs gets up on stage to deliver a mea culpa, even though this one also provided him with an opportunity to deliver what some of his rivals would consider swipes against them. He also graciously offered buyers of the iPhone 4 free cases, or bumpers, to help prevent the phone from dropping calls because of its unique antenna design.
Any other company, any other product, and people would have been queuing up to return them. But not with the iPhone, it seems. Since 24 June, when the iPhone 4 went on sale, Apple has sold three million of them. And there’s a waiting list.
The world of iPhone users then doesn’t seem to be divided between those who’re about to return their devices and those who’ll keep them. Instead, it’s between those who’re willing to put a case on their phone and those who would rather miss a call or two than mar its beauty.
