New Delhi: The government has been taking steps to ease the impact of a deepening global crisis on the domestic economy and jobs must be protected even if it means cutting pay, the finance minister said on Friday.
Pranab Mukherjee also said the government would ensure adequate credit to sectors in need and invest more on infrastructure.

“The government has been conscious of the magnitude of this still deepening crisis and has been taking steps to mitigate its impact on the Indian society,” the minister said in a statement circulated before his speech.
“Jobs must be protected even if it means some reduction in compensation at various levels,” he added.
