New Delhi: Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat on 25 June met External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee in an effort to break the logjam over the Indo-US nuclear deal.
Karat went to Mukherjee’s house early in the morning to hold discussions on the issue that has created a stand-off between the government and the Left allies.
The meeting assumes significance as it comes hours ahead of the crucial UPA-Left committee meeting to resolve the stand-off.
Defence Minister A. K. Antony was also present when Karat met Mukherjee this morning.
After the discussion with Karat, Mukherjee and Antony went to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi to apprise her of the talks.
