New Delhi:On Tuesday, at a preview of the World Dance Festival – an event being organized in India from 10-13 September by cosmetics company, Surya Brasil – Mint had a tantalizing taste of some of the dances to come next month.
Brazilian dancers Fernanda Dias and Serginho demonstrated the Forro and Axe -- both Latin American dances -- with all the hip thrusts, gyrations, belly winding and ankle shaking one could hope for. The type of convoluted moves you’ve always wanted to try, but restricted to the space in front of your bedroom mirror for fear of looking foolish.
Kathak dancer, Uma Sharma, also performed -- shoulder-to-shoulder with her Brazilian counterparts to Latin American music. We thought she held her own quite well. But don’t take our word for it – take a look at Mint’s video of the event and judge for yourself.
The World Dance Festival will take place at the Leela Kempinski in Gurgaon, and will offer 72 workshops focused around Brazilian and Latin American dance. While the word “world” is somewhat misleading – the dances are either from Latin America or India – the organizers explain that the festival will happen in a different city every year. Next stop, New York City.
