Here is a guide to some personal-finance websites popular with investors abroad. There are no tips on Indian stocks, bonds or funds on these portals. But you could make use of some very interesting insights and perspectives on managing your finances and investments.

Motleyfool.com: Started by brothers David and Tom Gardner, the portal delivers what it aims—to educate, amuse and enrich every investor. This is reflected in the way the portal is structured and the articles written. For instance, one of its sections, Rule Breakers, gives recommendations on small, well-managed companies having unique products that dominate the mass market. It is the interesting style and straightforward advice given in the articles that make the website popular with investors. The Gardner brothers have co-authored eight books on personal finance, among them You Have More Than You Think, and a newsletter, Motley Fool Green Light.

360financialliteracy.org: The site is promoted by the association of certified public accountants in the US. As the name suggests, it provides insights and tips about managing finances at every stage of life—from teaching kids about money, buying a house and retirement planning to handling crisis situations and deciding on a career. And the format of the advice is more generic than product-specific and can be used by a wide cross-section of investors.

Kiplinger.com: The portal comes from an organization that publishes the popular Kiplinger magazine. As it claims on the home page, Kiplinger Letter 1923, launched in 1923, is the oldest personal finance newsletter in the US. Unlike most of the Indian websites, this one concentrates more on giving advice and regularly uploads articles on investing, retirement and spending, among other issues.

Smartmoney.com: While most of the information and articles on this website are about US stock markets and mutual funds, articles by market commentators, stock strategists, mutual fund experts and financial planners provide interesting perspectives on investment strategies and managing finances. It is a joint venture between Hearst Corp. and Dow Jones & Co. Dow Jones publishes The Wall Street Journal and is a content partner to Mint.

Morningstar.com: Although it is dedicated to information on stocks and mutual funds, its personal finance section and the university section have articles by professional financial planners and analysts, and give valuable information on issues such as retirement planning and managing a mutual fund portfolio.

Allfinancialmatters.com:If you are bored with what experts are saying, join the community of bloggers. This website is similar to a blog and has postings about all kinds of financial matters—teaching kids about money, saving for college education, retirement planning and basic financial calculations that can help you plan your finances. While the majority of the postings are done by the blogger himself, others, too, can post their opinions and articles here.
