It’s about time, don’t you think? Do you really enjoy reading about how many times some Mumbai Page 3-er changed his slim-fit shirt during the course of one evening of partying?

Or would you rather know that Standard Chartered Mutual Fund head honcho Naval Bir Kumar’s favourite painting (it hangs in a corner of his living room) is an abstract portrait of my favourite painter Bhupen Khakhar by his fellow artist Baiju Parthan (see Page 21). Or that Citibanker Pramit Jhaveri believes you can make more money on art than on stocks (see Page 10).

It’s time you shared what’s actually going on in your life. What really turns you on. Step out of the closet, or just let us in.

We want to know about the painting you bought last month. About the amazing holiday you went on recently (where you did something other than shop and eat, please—unless you raided the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan or the meal was a seven-course snake banquet in Vietnam). Why you think LeapPad is the best parenting-aid since waterproof diapers. And how you maintain a work-play balance.

In the struggle to juggle, your exercise routine is almost always the first casualty. Ask me. I’ve whizzed my way through yoga, weights, aerobics, swimming, running, belly dancing (I’ve thought about it), dancing and trekking. Recently, I paid a large sum of money for an annual membership at the neighbourhood gym. I haven’t been there for the last two months, ever since one of those ghastly machines acted funny with my right hip.

Now there’s more bad news for those of us who don’t clock 240 minutes of exercise every week. According to Nagpur-based physician Prashant Joshi, we can’t blame genetics, the thin walls of our arteries or our errant lipoproteins for the sad state of the Indian heart. His study, published in the January issue of the respected Journal of American Medical Association, shines the spot squarely on the way we live. So, if you must think of heart-shaped things in February, think of the points we make in our cover story on Page 12.

Today, two of our favourite detectives return to centre stage. Satyajit Ray’s cult 6-footer Feluda premieres on BBC Radio at 8pm, in a one-hour broadcast, and goofy carrot monster Karamchand airs on Sony Television at 9pm. See our stories on Pages 18 and 21, respectively, and decide whether you are going to indulge in this back-to-back crime fest.

There’s been so much debate about celebrity brands this year—Bachchan vs Khan, the return of Sourav Ganguly and surprise horse Shilpa Shetty. We asked Santosh Desai, former president of advertising firm McCann-Erickson, for his take on the winner of 2007 (see Page 11).

And while on the subject of celebrities, did you see the woman who refused to hug SRK on KBC? Why-oh-why did she do that? I’m happy to fill in for all such peculiar participants in forthcoming episodes.

Thank you for all the feedback. This week, you’ll see we’re doing our bit to revive the culture of letter writing. There’s nothing like a little positive reinforcement, right?
