Mumbai: An Indian judge on Wednesday handed out the first death sentence to a man who planted two of a series of bombs that ripped through Mumbai in 1993, killing 257 people in India’s deadliest attack.
Justice Pramod Kode said Parvez Shaikh packed a scooter with explosives in a crowded Mumbai market and filled a suitcase with explosives in a city hotel on March 12, 1993.
As many as 15 other bombers are awaiting sentencing for planting explosives in cars and scooters.
