Private equity firm 3i says Asia hits 9% of group portfolio value

Tokyo: Private equity firm 3i Group Plc. said that Asia represented 9% of its portfolio value on Thursday, up from from 4% a year earlier.
3i’s investments across Asia for the year to 30 March 2007 amounted to 258 million pounds (Rs1,061 crore) and accounted for 16% of the group’s overall investment in the year.
“We remain very excited about the opportunities offered by the growth of Asia’s economies, not only in China and India, but also in Southeast Asia," said Chris Rowlands, Managing Partner, Asia.
Rowlands relocated to Singapore recently to build 3i’s presence in the region.
During the year, 3i commitments in Asia included a $200 million investment in Asia Capital Reinsurance Group, Singapore, and a $50 million investment in Gujarat Adani Ports, India.
