Vadehra Art Gallery brings a high-calibre, high-profile show to the Capital this fortnight. The exhibition, a collaboration between Vadehra and London’s Grosvenor Gallery, is the second in a series of international art shows in India and brings together work by Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Tyeb Mehta and Francis Newton Souza. The works are loosely united by the artists’ presence in post-World War II London and their varying degrees of outsider status in England. 11am-7pm (Mon-Sat). Tsampa on my shoulder

Vidura Jang Bahadur’s exhibition of black-and-white pictures taken in Tibet, ‘Tsampa on My Shoulder’, at Bodhi Art is understated, powerful and technically perfect. Vidura’s photographic forefathers, in terms of his style, are substantial. The admitted influence of photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Josef Koudelka is undeniable. He is also inspired by cinematographers such as Sven Nykvist, Christopher Doyle and Gu Changwei. But despite these influences, Vidura has developed a style that’s distinctively his own. He has a knack for wedding situational human interactions, which Bresson was famous for, with strongly characterized landscapes. As part of the Pandit Gama Maharaj Memorial Festival, Raksha Singh and Anjali Saini will present a kathak duet interpreting the poetry of noted Hindi poet Dharamvir Bharati. Kakoli Shankar Mishra will also present a solo kathak recital. 7pm. India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road (2468-2222). Free.

Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra (SBKK) presents its 30th annual Krishna ballet. No other Hindu god has been deified in the performing arts the way Krishna has been. Whether the ‘ashtapadis’ of the ‘Geet Govinda’ or the ‘raas lilas’, Krishna brings out the best in artists. 6.30pm. Kamani Auditorium, 1, Copernicus Marg (2338-8084). The musical highlight of the Pandit Gama Maharaj Memorial Festival will be a santoor jugalbandi on the first evening featuring the father-son duo from Kashmir. A 20-something bamboo flute virtuoso, Shashank was a student of the violin till the age of six. He has performed on stage with some of the biggest names of our age, from Pandit Jasraj to John McLaughlin and Pandit Zakir Hussain. His performance is part of the proceedings on the second day of the Second Krishna Leela Raas Rang Utsav. The day’s programme also includes a dance recital by Prerana Shrimali at 10.30am. 7pm. The 1857 Rebellion

A panel discussion around a new book of the same title by Biswamoy Pati. The book brings together some seminal writings on the subject, including some out-of-print tracts, to present a comprehensive picture of the 1857 rebellion. On the panel will be Amar Farooqui, Biswamoy Pati and Hari Sen, all from Delhi University. Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, chairperson of the Indian Council of Historical Research, will chair the discussion. The event is in collaboration with the Oxford University Press. 6.30pm. Flames Flowers and Other Images

There is no arguing that Indian society is patriarchal but, seen from Surekha’s viewpoint, being a woman is painful. ‘Flames Flowers and Other Images’ is a selection of works in video, installations and photographs that Surekha has developed over the past seven years. “I have actually gone through my works and picked works that resonated with the idea of gender and sexuality," she said with somewhat unnerving cheerfulness. “So, yes, there is violence." 11am-7pm (Mon-Sat). Bhraimoman Theatre: Where Othello Sails with the Titanic

Bidyut Kotoky’s documentary follows Assam’s mobile theatre groups as they hop from village to village between September and April every year. The groups set up makeshift auditoriums at each stop and perform plays on every possible subject, from Princess Diana being chased by paparazzi to 9/11. Madurai-based film-maker Amudhan R.P. (36) targets caste yet again in his latest film. ‘Seruppu’ (Footwear), a Tamil documentary screened at the recent Jeevika Festival in New Delhi. The film, which makes its debut in Mumbai this fortnight, is about the economic and social difficulties faced by a Dalit Christian community that makes leather footwear. 6.30pm. Rhythm Road Jazz All Stars

Since it was inaugurated in 1996, Jazz at Lincoln Centre, an arm of the famed performing arts complex on New York’s Columbus Circle, has had one aim: to bring people together through swing.
The organization has as its artistic director Wynton Marsalis, the best-known jazzman of his generation. This fortnight, Mumbai will get a taste of Rhythm Road Jazz All Stars, a travelling group assembled by the centre. 7pm. Shanmukhananda Hall, Free. BMW Exhibition

BMW’s Art Car collection comprises 15 beamers that have been painted by artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg, Jenny Holzer and David Hockney. Two cars from the collection, Warhol’s 1971 M1 and Lichtenstein’s 1977 320i, will be showcased at Jehangir Art Gallery and dinky productions will be on sale. This is a rare treat for music lovers in the Capital, with the wife and daughter (both disciples) of Kumar Gandharva sharing the stage at the Second Krishna Leela Raas Rang Utsav. The programme will feature a short recital by Kalapini (in a morning session) followed by a recital and demonstration on Meera bhajans and ‘Sur padhs’ by Vasundhara, Kalapini and poet Ashok Vajpeyi (in an evening session). The day’s programme also includes the inauguration of an exhibition of paintings and an interactive talk. 10.30am and 7pm.
