Dark Suits have power, light suits exude confidence
Everyone at my workplace dresses in dark suits. Can I get away with wearing lighter shades?
Of course. Lighter shades look great on younger people and a well-cut light suit looks more refined than a dark one. Dark suits have an air of power, while lighter suits exude confidence. Lighter shades are ideal for Indian weather conditions. Colours you can wear are pale blue, light grey, beige, cream, khaki and taupe—they’re appropriate for work, yet look different.
Is it okay if I wear a broad belt to office? How can I make it look professional?
No, it’s not the done thing to wear a broad belt to work. Wear one only if you’re in the music, advertising or entertainment business, because it’s a sign of casualness and shows that you’re more concerned with making a statement than getting your job done. It’s akin to wearing big earrings to work. It’s a bold fashion statement in a professional environment and draws too much attention. The presence of a broad belt in a professional’s closet is acceptable only if it is used to cinch a jacket at the waist in winter. Some other items you must never wear to work are T-shirts, transparent shirts and sneakers, unless your job requires you to be athletic or stay outdoorsfor long.
