Delhi HC refuses to interfere in ONGC-RIL gas dispute
Court holds the petition filed by ONGC as 'infructuous'
New Delhi: The Delhi high court on Thursday disposed of a petition filed by Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd (ONGC), which alleged that Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) had been drawing gas from its hydrocarbon block in the Krishna-Godavari basin.
The petition was held as being “infructuous" by justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw, given that an independent agency, DeGolyer and MacNaughten, has been appointed to look into the allegations by ONGC.
“Whatever action has to be taken further, will now be based on the report of the independent agency and taken by the government. We have no role to play beyond this point.," said justice Endlaw.
ONGC alleged in the petition that RIL exploited gas reserves belonging to the state-run explorer in the course of its own drilling activities. RIL said at the time the petition was filed last year that any claims of impropriety on its part were baseless
On Thursday, RIL refused to comment on the matter.
