New Dehi: Microsoft, which makes proprietary software, has invested $20 million in education initiatives in India over the last five years, and plans to invest $20 million more over the next five years on training teachers, building academies, providing computers and software.
But not everyone thinks this is a good idea.
Proponents of Free and Open Source Software, or FOSS, say software that is available for anyone to use without any licensing costs that allows you to freely study and modify the source code and redistribute it makes more sense in the class room. Microsoft, however, says they don’t look at just from the perspective of just providing software, but as being part of the whole ecosystem of delivery related to IT education.
