New Delhi: Close on the heels of Apple and Samsung launching full touchscreen devices in the country, US handset company, Motorola today said it is all set to roll out an affordable touch-phone in the Indian market priced Rs8,000.
The new device -- Moto Yuva A810 -- will be available here from next month, said Lloyd Mathias, Motorola India’s senior director, head ofsales, India and southwest Asia.
The internet-ready phone comes with a 2.2-inch touch-screen, handwriting recognition and a host of other multimedia features. Motorola has also customized the phone for the Indian market with features like SMS in ‘Hinglish’ (English+Hindi), a large phone book that stores 500 entries and ability to store 750 SMSes.
“There is a huge expectation in the Indian market for low-cost touch-screen phones. With the new product we expect a good demand for the it," Mathiassaid. After the launch of the iPhone in the Indian market in August this year, mobile device manufacturers have readied themselves to launch touchscreen devices to cash in on the hype created by iPhone.
Samsung also launched a full touch-screen ‘Omnia´ priced over Rs39,000. Industry leaders say that since most touch-devices have been positioned as premium products priced above Rs30,000, the new entry-level PDA would see an emergence of low-priced touch phones in the country.
In India, the market for entry-level sub-Rs3,000 constitutes more than50% of the total mobile handset market in the country, Mathias said adding that Motorola is expanding the offerings in the segment with the launch of three handsets under the Yuva series to tap the low-end handset market.
