Maruti to service 3,796 units of Ciaz for suspected faulty clutch
The cars are among those manufactured till 7 November, the company said
Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Ltd will undertake a so-called service campaign to inspect a suspected fault and replace the relevant part of the clutch operation system of a batch of 3,796 Ciaz sedans (manual transmission), the company said in a statement. These cars are among those manufactured till 7 November.
“The company has decided to undertake a service campaign for these cars in the interest of customers. The inspection and replacement will be done free of cost to the customer," it said.
Maruti sold nearly 5,232 units of Ciaz in November. It launched the model in October to replace the SX4 sedan.
The company, however, stopped short of calling it a recall as it involves an “operational" issue and not a “safety" issue.
As per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ (Siam’s) voluntary code on vehicle recall which came into effect in July 2012, vehicles that have issues which pose a safety defect have to be voluntarily inspected and rectified by the manufacturer and importer free of cost. Instances of safety defect includes malfunctioning of steering system, defects in brake system, fuel and wiring system, among others.
