Maruti Suzuki sales jump 22% in July
Growth was led by a 33% increase in sales of the company's entry-level models, including WagonR and Alto
Mumbai: Domestic sales at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd jumped 22% to 110,405 units in July over a year ago, India’s car market leader said in a statement on Saturday.
The growth was led by a 33% increase in sales of the company’s entry-level models, including the WagonR and the Alto, which rose to 37,752 units against 28,759 units in the year-ago period.
All other segments, including compact, super-compact and utility vehicles, too, also saw sales surge over a year ago.
Maruti Suzuki plans to launch its maiden compact sport utility vehicle S-Cross on 5 August to take on Hyundai’s Creta, the Ford Ecosport and Renault’s Duster.
The company’s exports during the month, however, remained muted at 11,307 units against 11,287 units a year ago.
Car sales in India grew 1.53% in June, the slowest in five months. Industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers singled out annual plant maintenance shutdowns as the reason for putting the brakes on growth.
