German Robotics company to set up base in India

New Delhi: With an aim to tap the rapidly growing automotive and textile sectors in the country, leading German robot manufacturer, KUKA Robotics GMBH said on 17April that it will start its sales and training operations in India.
The company would start its operations through its subsidiary, KUKA Robotics India, and it would establish its headquarters in Delhi and a training and sales centre in Pune, with a capacity to train 300 people annually. It is also going to set up a representative office in Chennai.
“We entered the Indian market last year and sold over 350 robots worth ₹ 228 crores in the first year with majority of them brought by TATA Motors" KUKA Robotics Managing Director Bruno Geiger said.
KUKA India’s key clientele include major automobile and other engineering companies, like TATA Motors and Hyundai and the focus areas for the company in India, other than automotive, are foundry, wielding and logistics.
“This year, we are targeting around 150 robots worth ₹ 60-80 crores in India and are also helping state owned BHEL in its research and development projects". The company will also initiate R&D projects in the country in collaboration with universities. They are currently in talk with engineering colleges.
