Flipkart Inc. is the number one company where India wants to work today. The original start-up poster boy that enjoys a unicorn status, Flipkart at heart, is a tech company and its most exciting projects are still in that domain. It was also one of the first companies to offer six months of maternity leave and sabbatical options. No wonder then that it has pipped Google to the post. The global internet company is at number 4 in India, according to LinkedIn.
Both Flipkart and Google are among the top 25 companies where India wants to work, according to the “Top Attractors”, a new list brought out by LinkedIn, a professional networking company recently acquired by Microsoft. According to LinkedIn data, the 25 top attractors are the 25 best companies in India at attracting and keeping top talent. These are not the companies that are the “best” to work at, based on opinions and surveys. Nor are they the companies that are the largest, based on revenues and profits. Rather, LinkedIn’s Top Attractors List comprises companies where people most eagerly want to land jobs, and stay put there.
If Flipkart is at number one, Amazon is at number two. LinkedIn data shows that applications for Amazon jobs are up 25% since last year. The company provides excellent salaries and such perks as the Amazon Career Choice Program, which pays 95% of tuition for in-demand fields. At number three is French multinational management consulting corporation Capgemini, followed by Mountain View-based Google. In the race for perks, few can top Google. The company lavishes its 60,000-plus workers with mountains of food, A-list speakers, on-site massages—even benefits after death.
Accounting firm KPMG, management consultancy Deloitte and computer services company Adobe are at the fifth, sixth and seventh slots, respectively. HCL Technologies is at number eight.
Start-ups like Housing.com and Ola feature at the ninth and tenth positions, respectively.

How the list was assembled
The Top Attractors list is the first ranking of its kind to be based entirely on actions of users. The LinkedIn team analyzed all the actions taken by their 433 million-plus members to come up with a blended score that was then used to rank the winners in each geography. The methodology leveraged actions such as job applications, engagement and the staying capacity of new hires.
Job applications: Both the views and actual applications on job postings featured on LinkedIn.
Engagement: How many non-employees attempted to view and connect with a company’s employees; views on a company’s career page; reach and engagement of content; along with growth in followers over the past year, among other metrics.
New hire staying power: After a new employee joins, how long does she stick around. The analysis included companies with over 500 employees, included only actions taken in the 12 months ending in February this year and excluded LinkedIn from consideration. However, the company clarifies that Microsoft was allowed to remain on the list this year as the Microsoft-LinkedIn deal hasn’t closed and LinkedIn had no ties with Microsoft during the data-gathering period.
