Kaiga : A Unit of the 220 MW capacity Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant is scheduled to attain ‘criticality´on 26 February, officials said.
The countdown for Unit 3 to attain ‘criticality´ began at 6 pm on 25 February, they said.Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCL) received authorisation for ‘First Approach´ of ‘criticality´ today.
For the first time, ‘sustained chain reaction´ has been utilised with indigenous technology, they said.All safety measures have been taken in the unit, the officials said.The third unit work has been carried out within a record period of four years 11 months, they said.
The authorisation to NPCL was given by Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Mumbai, at 4.30 pm on 25 February, the officials added.
