The Indian government in September last year eased policy restrictions on the entry of multi-brand retailers into the country. But foreign retailers have been slow to bite. Only a handful of brands are applying to enter India and the process has been fraught with delays.
Some experts say this is because the policy is unclear. Others postulate that it’s a matter of time, since entering a new market is a costly procedure and India’s infrastructure is still developing. Either way, consumers are eager to see the entrance of more foreign brands.
