Kolkata: Finally it is official that IT bellwether Infosys Technologies would invest Rs500 crore in red citadel West Bengal with the company signing an MoU with the state government for 90-acre land.
The Bangalore-based company would employ 5,000 engineers in the first phase at its Kolkata Development Centre.
“We have signed an MoU with the state IT Department early this month and decided to invest Rs500 crore and recruit a workforce of 5,000 in the first phase,” Infosys CEO and managing director S Gopalakrishnan said after meeting chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at the state secretariat.
“It will be multi-technology and multi-service development centre and would be the 11th centre,” he said.
It has been two years since the company had expressed interest to invest in West Bengal, but land pricing was a major stumbling block.
