India PC market declines 5.9% in Q3: Gartner
The combined desk-based and mobile PC sales drop to about 2.9 million units during the quarter
Mumbai: The combined desk-based and mobile personal computers (PC) market in India dropped 5.9% in the September quarter to about 2.9 million units as buyers resisted discounts and promotional offers in an uncertain economy, according to researcher Gartner Inc.
Lenovo India Pvt. Ltd, helped by a large order from the Tamil Nadu government, retained its position as the country’s top PC seller with a 17% market share.
Hewlett-Packard Co.’s PC shipments grew 10%, but Dell Inc.’s declined 22% in the same period. Local vendor HCL Infosystems Ltd’s PC market share dropped to 3.4% in the September quarter from 5.6% a year ago, as sales declined 43% from a year earlier.
